In a shocking sign of the times, sales of bulletproof backpacks are skyrocketing in the wake of the horrifying massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School this week.
I don’t own any such backpacks but I would definitely consider equipping my own kids with such if I were sending them to school these days.
It pays to be prepared, so I’ve done some quick digging and found a few that would fit the need, just in case you would like to add some protection to your child’s or your own ensemble in an unobtrusive way.
Each of the bulletproof backpacks I shared below meets the standards of the National Institutes for Justice (NIJ) Level IIIA, which means they offer protection from pretty much any round other than those that are high-powered or armor-piercing. You can read about the NIJ standards here.
Of course, a bulletproof backpack is not a complete solution and even the best backpack won’t offer perfect protection. However, with one of these a person would at least have something to hide behind to cover the most vulnerable parts of their body.
They’re definitely worth considering as an addition to any personal security plan for your family or yourself.

This isn’t really news to most of you, but it is interesting to observe that those who are ostensibly the busiest — building businesses, teaching, leading churches and military organizations, etc. — still make time for reading.
Did you know that the average CEO reads more than 60 books a year and makes more than 300 times the income of the average worker who read just one book a year?
We all have the same 24 hours — 1,440 minutes — each day, but there are big differences in how we decide to use them.
As the infographic below shows, those who are wealthy make good use of their time and some 88 percent of them read at least 30 minutes every day.
Could you squeeze just 30 minutes of reading time into your schedule?

I am in the process of completely revamping my online presence here at GuyEWood.com and my other sites.
I took three of my sites completely off line — it was a tough decision to remove hundreds of posts and pages — and I’m now rebuilding them from the ground up using new servers, new site builders, new themes, new plugins, and more.
I’m also building two brand new sites, which will be focused on specific niches within the trucking industry and Fair Trade movement.
All the while, I’m still teaching back-to-back terms for a graduate school with students scattered around the world.
To say I’m busy would be a major understatement, but I am getting a great deal of help from my teammates, Me and Myself.
Anyway, I’m racing in a dozen different directions while learning about the new platforms and tools I’m using to make your experiences on my pages more pleasant. At last count, I was piecing together 13 different platforms and programs to build my redesigned sites into ones that are fast, easy to navigate, visually appealing, and chock full of useful information and resources.
I’m excited about the way things are going and I know that the experience will be better for me too once I reach the apex of my steep learning curve and I have an opportunity to douse my flaming hair.
