In a shocking sign of the times, sales of bulletproof backpacks are skyrocketing in the wake of the horrifying massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School this week.
I don’t own any such backpacks but I would definitely consider equipping my own kids with such if I were sending them to school these days.
It pays to be prepared, so I’ve done some quick digging and found a few that would fit the need, just in case you would like to add some protection to your child’s or your own ensemble in an unobtrusive way.
Each of the bulletproof backpacks I shared below meets the standards of the National Institutes for Justice (NIJ) Level IIIA, which means they offer protection from pretty much any round other than those that are high-powered or armor-piercing. You can read about the NIJ standards here.
Of course, a bulletproof backpack is not a complete solution and even the best backpack won’t offer perfect protection. However, with one of these a person would at least have something to hide behind to cover the most vulnerable parts of their body.
They’re definitely worth considering as an addition to any personal security plan for your family or yourself.
